This Wednesday is the first of a six part lecture series by Rabbi Cheski Edelman on the land of Israel and its spiritual importance to the Jewish people. The lessons will be every Wednesday at the same location, Seminar II, room A2107.

The first lesson is entitled ‘The Promised Land’ and deals with the biblical Jewish inheritance of the land of Israel as home.

This Sunday, we’ll be showing the film ‘Late Marriage’ in Lecture Hall 2. It’s a comedy/drama about an unmarried Jewish man from a strict family who is secretly in love with a divorced woman who already has a kid, despite his parents attempts to get him married according to tradition. There will be popcorn and other snacks.

See ya there.

Come to Hillel’s first Shabbat potluck of the winter quarter. It’s happening this Friday in K207 (the soups). Bring yourself and a kosher food dish. Vegetarian is simple, but if you want to bring meat, don’t mix it with dairy, and obviously no pork or shellfish. See you all there.

Congregation B’nai Torah is having a Chanukah bazaar this Sunday. There will be food vendors, lots of latkes, a raffle, and judaica. There will also be Israeli movies shown. Here’s the movie schedule for the day:

12:30 – Cup Final (1991)

2:30 – Kazablan (1974)

4:30 – Adio Kerida (2002)

At 6, Chanukah candles will be lit.

Directions: The temple is located at 3437 Libby Rd NE.

We will be having this extravagant dinner at Lea’s house. This is not a potluck, but is actually sponsored by Hasbara, and there will be an entire spread of Kosher food.

Lea’s house is at [information removed for privacy]. Since it’s not on a bus route, there will be a carpool leaving the A-Dorm loop at 6:15.

Free kosher food, multitudes of Jews, you can’t go wrong. See you all there.

Being Jewish in Olympia is an opportunity to meet some local Jewish figures and get to know them over delicious dessert treats. Yes, it’s a dessert potluck, so bring something tasty and eat dinner before you come.

The event happens in Seminar II B3105, which is a student lounge. Our guests will be Rabbi Seth Goldstein from Temple Beth Hatfiloh, Chabad Rabbi Cheski Edelman, and Jim Shulruff, a local Maggid.

See you there.

This will be our first Shabbat Dinner off campus, but it isn’t that far. It is hosted by Kai, who is not directly affiliated with Hillel, and is a great opportunity to meet Jews outside of the Evergreen community.

Following the 41 bus route (from campus), Kai’s house is shortly after you turn left onto 28th Ave (which becomes Division later). The address is 2639, and it’ll be on the right side of the road if you’re coming from campus. The festivities will begin at 8pm. Please bring a vegetarian dish or a kosher meat dish. RSVP with what you’re bringing to hillel-list@evergreenhillel.org.

See you all there.

Just making an announcement, our next Shabbat Dinner is coming next week. More details will be released as they are made available.

We want to thank all of you that helped to make Camp Darfur a great success. The response on campus was extremely positive and we can’t wait to work on similar events. For those of you wondering what is the next step, well there are plenty of ways to get involved and help out. You can refer to our Darfur Resources page, and contact us with any questions.

As the academic year comes to a close we would like to try and put together one last Hillel Shabbat. June 1st 2007, in Mod 303 B, we are thinking around 7:30pm…as usual it will be a potluck and Hillel will supply Challah and Kiddush . I hope to see you all there.

Thursday May 24th Camp Darfur will be on Evergreen’s campus.
