We have a slew of events planned in the next few weeks.

  • Next Wednesday May 16th David Lynn will be giving a lecture to be followed with his documentary about his experiences in Chad. He will be speaking about the Genocide in Darfur, Sudan and its effects in the surrounding countries. This event is co-sponsored by SESAME.
  • Friday May 18th we will be having a Potluck Shabbat dinner with a Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) theme.
  • Monday May 21st at 6pm in Lecture Hall 1 we will be co-sponsoring the film “Trembling Before G-d” with the Evergreen Queer Alliance. To be followed by Q&A with Rabbi Seth Goldstein.
  • Thursday May 24th we are bringing Camp Darfur to campus, this event will take place on Red Square from 10-2pm.

This week April 23rd-29th we have a busy week planned. Tuesday and Wednesday we will be having Bake Sale in the CAB, on the main floor from 11am-2ish.

Wednesday we also have our weekly Hillel meeting in SEM II A32017, come join a committee, help plan future events and schmooze with other Jews.

Also we will be having a Jewish/Hebrew game night on Wednesday at 7pm in Mod 303 B (Student Housing)

Sunday April 29th Rabbi Joseph Telushkin will be speaking in Portland. The topic of his lecture is “Judaism: What is the goal?” His lecture will be at Congregation Shaarie Torah, and is free to students with a valid student ID. Hi, I hope everyone had a great Passover and that your quarter is going well. This Friday April 20th, Hillel is having a Potluck Shabbat Dinner in Sem II A2105. It is a dairy meal, so anything along those lines that you want to bring, please do.  I hope to see you all there.

Who doesn’t love bread? I sure do. Tomorrow night at 6:30pm in the Longhouse (on Evergreens campus) Hillel is having a Chametz Potluck to celebrate the end of Passover. Since now we can eat bread, pastries and all of those other forbidden foods. Bring foods that you enjoy eating on or with Pizza. Dough, sauce, cheese and drinks will be provided. Can’t wait to see you all there.

Passover will be upon us sooner than we can imagine, first Seder is the 2nd of April which is also the first day of spring quarter. We will be going to University of Washington to take part in their Hillel Seders. UW is offering Four Seders the first night and they will begin around 7:30pm there will be undergraduates, Jconnectors (ages 22-32) and community members in attendance. The 4 seders will be a Womens Seder, a traditional Hebrew seder, a Learners seder, and an Environmental seder. You can RSVP on our website through the contact us page, or through UW’s Hillel. There is a nominal fee, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Calling all Jewish Students between the ages of 18-26 who have never been to Israel on a peer group trip. You might be eligible for a Free 10 day trip to Israel through Birthright Israel. The Evergreen Hillel is part of what is called the Soref Initiative, which is dedicated to helping campuses with small Jewish Communities sustain a Hillel. Registration is currently open for all summer trips and if you apply through Hillel and state that you are from The Evergreen State College, the Soref coordinator will be informed. All students from Soref Campuses who apply before the deadline of March 8th 2007 will be accepted , as long as they are eligible. All the necessary information is on the Hillel website. It is with great pride and excitement that I announce the three delegates to the Spitzer Forum in Washington, D.C! Our very own Co-Coordinator Ellen Hockley, along with two constituents Randy Hunt and Jonathan Berkley will be attending. We wish them luck, fun and hope that they bring us lots of photos!
